Course Overview
The 6-session (24 hour total) wound care course is aimed at health care professionals with an interest in wound care. It is designed to provide the learners with foundational knowledge and skills necessary to provide best practice in the assessment and management of a variety of wounds including diabetic foot ulcers. The content focuses on reviewing anatomy and physiology of the skin, age related skin changes, wound etiology and classifications, pressure injuries and staging, pressure injury prevention, wound assessment and management, skin tears, phases of wound healing, signs and symptoms of wound infection, and patient education regarding prevention strategies. The learners will discuss wound care products and rationale for use to build capacity with regard to skin and wound management.
The participants’ learning will be facilitated to discuss comorbid conditions, medications, and lifestyle that impair wound healing. Students will be required to participate in class discussions and case studies. Pre class assignments must be completed and presented as partial fulfillment of the course.
Please note: There will be a pre-class assignment due the day before class # 1
